Lynn Gressley

LYNN HAROLD GRESSLEY, JR.

Port Townsend, Wash.

August 10, 1949 – April 12, 2013

Lynn Harold Gressley, Jr., 63, of Port Townsend, Wa., died of cancer on April 12, 2013, in his home, under the kind care of Jefferson County Hospice.

Lynn was loved and is missed by his mother Julianne Gressley of Port Ludlow, brother David Grassle of Port Ludlow, sister Diane Gressley of Longbranch, adopted daughter Sarina Gressley of Port Townsend, adopted son Allen Gressley of Port Townsend, brother-in-law David Starkweather of Longbranch, and nephew Gibson Starkweather of Tacoma. Lynn is preceded in death by his father, Lynn Harold Gressley, Sr.

Born in Toledo, Ohio, Lynn graduated from Bowsher High School. He received a BS in Social Work from Denison University in Granville, Ohio, and a MSW from the University of Michigan. He worked as a rehabilitation social worker in Detroit, Michigan and San Francisco, California. Lynn was executive director of San Francisco Careers Abound, serving disabled youth, and he was president of San Francisco Mayor Diane Feinstein’s Council on Disability Concerns. Before retiring to Port Townsend Lynn worked as a Blind Rehabilitation Specialist and trained veterans to use computers, as well as reconfiguring computers to the veterans’ specific needs, at the Department of Veterans Affairs Hospital in Palo Alto, California.

Lynn has devoted many volunteer hours of service to Jefferson County DASH (Disability Awareness Starts Here); Jefferson County Council for the Blind; Jefferson Transit Advisory Board, Jefferson County Health Department in cooperation with Jefferson County Emergency, and the City of Port Townsend Building Department.

Lynn was always positive and cheerful, hence his family nickname “Chip”. A candlelight celebration of life will be held on April 27 at 7:00 p.m. at the Community United Methodist Church in Port Hadlock.
