SCHUNK, WILLIAM JOHN
William John Schunk, 56, of Toledo, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 25, 2005. He was born on June 9, 1949, in Toledo, Ohio, to Maxine (Carlson) and Alfred Schunk. Bill was a 1967 graduate of E.L. Bowsher High School and a 1971 graduate of Penta County Community College (Owens Community College).
Bill worked for the New York Central Railroad/Conrail/CSX for 38 years and was a lifetime member of the United Transportation Union. He was a longtime member of the 14th Ward Old Time Ballplayers Association, where he served the members in several capacities, including multiple terms as president. He was also a proud member of the Moose Lodge and Sons of the American Legion. Bill enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and watching sports.
Bill is survived by his two daughters, Elizabeth (Patrick) Winkler and Kristen Schunk, and three grandchildren, Kaylie Schunk and Mary Kate and Jack Winkler. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Alfred Schunk.
There will be no visitation. Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 28 at Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Avenue. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Old Time Ballplayers Scholarship Fund, 2388 Airport Highway, Toledo, OH 43609
