STEWART, RUSSELL S.
Russell Stewart, 54, of So. Toledo passed away Tuesday morning August 26, 2003 at St. Luke's Hospital. He was a 1967 graduate of E. L. Bowsher High School.
Russell served in the U.S. Army from January, 1969 to November, 1970. He was a recent recipient of the Silver Rose Award given to those Vietnam veterans who were exposed to Agent Orange. The Department of the Army awarded Russell the Bronze Star, the Army Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, as well as the Purple Heart for wounds suffered in combat.
After the Vietnam War he took an extended motorcycle trip to the Canadian Rockies and the Western United States. Russell and Peggy enjoyed camping and motorcycling in southeast Ohio. His children Ian and Margaret have fond memories of their trips with dad and Peggy.
Through the years he loved trucks, trains, and heavy equipment of all kinds. He was a member of the H.C.E.A. and the American Truck Historial Society, the Antique Motorcycle Club of America as well as the American Motorcyclist Association.
Russell was a millwright with the City of Toledo for 30 years.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harlan Stewart, and is survived by his loving wife, Peggy (Hollinger) Stewart; mother, Rita Stewart; son, Ian, and daughter Margaret Stewart. Also surviving is his brother Barney (Beth) Stewart and sister Rosalind (Dennis) Rober. He was an uncle to 8 nieces and nephews and great-uncle to 4 nieces.
Friends may call at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Road Thursday, from 5-7:30 p.m.where a Veterans Commemorative Service will take place at 7 p.m. The funeral will begin in the mortuary Friday, August 29, at 9:15 a.m.followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Immaculate Conception Church, Marygrove, OH, at 10 a.m. Interment will be private.
