John Strawser

SON OF POLICEMAN FOUND FATALLY SHOT - Revolver Located Beside Serviceman

The son of a city patrolman was found shot to death late Tuesday in a creek at Glanzman Road and Frampton Drive. The policeman's service revolver was found beside the youth, an army private.

John M. Strawser, 19, son of Patrolman and Mrs. Richard Strawser, of 3024 Frampton, was shot in the head. Dr. Harry Mignerey, coroner, returned a verdict of suicide.

Lt. Kenneth Foss, homicide detective, said young Strawser was found at 5:45 p.m. by two teen-agers. The police pistol was found on the creek bank. The body was found within sight of the youth's home.

Patrolman Strawser reported his pistol missing when he went on duty at 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Mr. Strawser told Lieutenant Foss that he was unaware his son was home from Camp Gordon, Ga. The youth enlisted in the army July 9. The father could give no reason for his son's action.

The youth was a 1967 graduate of Bowsher High School.

Also surviving are sisters Sandra, Linda, and Susan, at home; brother Michael, at home; and grandparents Mrs. Alice Strawser, of Toledo, and Mrs. Loretta Rothman, of Toledo.

Services will be Friday at 9 a.m. in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, with burial in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. The Rosary will be recited Thursday at 8 p.m. in the Bersticker Mortuary, Heatherdowns Blvd.
